Distress Call

Help me, O Lord my God! Save me because of your unfailing love (Psalm 109:26, New Living Translation of the Bible).

I was watching a cartoon with my great-grandson. Over and over, sirens blared, and wheels screeched as a little pet chicken repeatedly got into trouble. It was pulled from the ocean, rescued from the mountain, and spared from calamity after calamity. It would cry for help and was saved by a group of faithful little puppies who obviously loved the chicken.

Watching this cartoon caused me to think about how often God helps and rescues me. One Sunday morning, rushing to work, I found myself at the bus stop with no wallet. I rummaged through my purse for loose change. I cried out to God for help. Missing this bus would cause me to be at least an hour late. Five cents short, I was about to turn to go home in defeat and discouragement. As I turned, looking down at the ground, the sunlight hit a shiny nickel under a bench, just in time for the bus!

Scripture reminds us that we can and should cry out to God for help. Attentive to our cries, He is not limited in the type of trouble He can deliver us from or how often He will save us from disaster. He loves us.

What are you going through? What sirens are blaring in your life? Open your mouth and make a distress call to heaven. Our faithful God will show up every time and deliver you in ways you could not imagine. He can do the impossible and cause you to have victory when defeat seems imminent.

Prayer: How grateful we are, Heavenly Father, for your unfailing love. You will never fail to help us in our distress. You are always there to come to our aid. Thank you for loving us now and always. Amen.
